The more identity is attached to what is familiar, the harder it is to experience today and tomorrow without being under the influence of the past. By simply observing thoughts, feelings, and actions, you can begin to appreciate how the large majority are arising in relation to past, not present, experience. Who are you, if not the storyline that orients you to your world. What would it be like to step beyond it? What becomes possible?

Relating to whatever is being experienced as a precious gift is life-enhancing. Remembering this can be challenging. Practicing it daily helps to ingrain it.
The human mind creates our life "experiences" by linking processes of thought, feeling, and action in different parts of the brain. Mindfulness practices and self-reflection can help us recognize how we create and maintain the illusions of personal "realities" or story lines, and open avenues of transformation.
Judging, calculating, mechanistic mind works well when performing tasks.
Playful, intuitive, dreaming mind is needed when we step into the unfamiliar. Value the advantages of each, and learn to shift operating systems as needed. Our 3 innate insecurities are that we are not safe, we do not matter, and we do not belong. Fear drives us to address these essential needs in some way and to be on the lookout for any threats to their not being met. Perceptions that our security needs are being met bring satisfaction and pride, while indications they are not being met bring distress and shame. To ensure survival of our species, our brains evolved a heightened sensitivity to insecurity fears, a strong propensity (bias) to be vigilant, suspicious, doubting, or unsatisfied. We can counterbalance this leaning by noticing and appreciating evidence we are safe, significant, and connected in the present moment. Practicing gratitude works.
