The practice of non-violence: an exercise in mindfulness
The mind is formed and altered by repeated experiences and practices. Making peace a reality requires regular reinforcement of the attitudes and principles of non-violence in all human relationships, beginning with ones' own self. Reactivity to insecurity fears begets both violence and submission. Compassionate, non-judgmental awareness of the fearful stories and beliefs that we each create, maintain, and project is the first step in their dissolution.
Where are the courageous voices of non-violence in addressing the perpetuation of armed conflict?
So long as non-violence is falsely perceived as weakness our leadership will avoid adopting its principles and practices. And yet some of the greatest modern leaders such as King, Gandhi, or Mandela emanated unstoppable strength. When will we learn that the power of Love is far greater than fear?
LOVE is unconditional, beyond the influence of thoughts or feelings.
It is the capacity of life to witness and experience itself without judgment. |
